Appledore is a very picturesque charming village in North Devon on the banks of the River Torridge, with a strong tradition of fishing and boat building which still thrives today.

"I especially loved the winding narrow streets of Appledore, stunningly elegant buildings all painted in an array of soft pastel tones with beautiful doorways, windows, and superb quirky door handles and knockers. There is a passenger ferry taking tourists over the estuary to the sandy beaches of Instow and the river is a popular spot for dingy boats, yachts, and gig racing which I wanted to portray in my picture. I also wanted to add the trademark Hocking's ice cream van which is indeed iconic to Appledore along with some bunting to mark the annual Appledore Book Festival, which is a huge event for the village and takes place at the end of September."

The Becky Bettesworth Appledore print was the official artwork for the Book Festival 2017. More information about the book festival can be found at www.appledorebookfestival.co.uk
