Autumn Walks
Although I love Spring and Summer, Autumn is definitely one of the most beautiful times of year to get out into nature and go for a walk. The colourful display as the leaves turn orange and red and slowly drop, is something quite special. It always feels like nature is having it's final beauty burst before going to sleep until the Spring. Nature really does put on the most splendid show at this time of year.
There is something so child like about kicking through the leaves in the woods and feeling the crunch of them under your boots. Seeing the red and white toadstools and mushrooms on the floor and looking up and seeing the light reflecting through the canopy of the trees. As the leaves flutter downwards to join the already growing collection on the woodland floor there is a magical feeling.
I am blessed to be able to walk on Dartmoor and the colours there at the moment are so rich and provide me as an Artist with such inspiration. The heather is turning purple and set against the oranges and reds from the trees and hedges, it is extraordinarily vibrant, inspiring energy and exhilaration.
Beach walks are always lovely at this time of year as well. The sea is such a different colour in the Autumn and the blues and greys set against the coastline where I live in South Devon are so vibrant in contrast to the oranges, reds and yellows of the coast path. The cool wind and nip in the air make you wrap up warm and when you get home there is that awesome glowing feeling from being outside. Hot chocolate is a must have when coming indoors from a long walk with the family. We also love taking a flask of hot chocolate with us as well!
